General description of the SchoolThe School of Technology and Management of Bragança (ESTiG), established in 1990, carries out its training and research/development mission in the areas of engineering and enterprise sciences.
For the achievement of its objectives, ESTiG has its facilities at the campus of Santa Apolónia; with a total area of 14000m2, the building of ESTiG includes 112 teacher offices, 1 auditorium, 2 lecture halls, 25 classrooms, 5 computer rooms, 1 library and 20 laboratories, which occupy a total area exceeding 3000m2, as well as areas of conviviality and technical/administrative support.
Having 104 full-time teachers (85 of whom hold a PhD degree), 54 part-time teachers (outside contributors who maintain a professional activity outside the school) and 36 technical/administrative staff (22 of whom are graduate), ESTiG has become one of the largest Schools of Technology and Management in Portugal.
In the academic year 2016/2017, ESTiG has almost 2150 students from all over the country, Europe, Africa and Latin America, distributed by:
- 8 professional higher technical courses (CTeSP): Chemical and Biological Analysis; Automation, Robotics and Industrial Electronics; Accounting; Software Development and Systems Administration; Renewable Energy and Electrical Installation; Operations Management and Logistics; Planning and Management of Site Works; Mineral and Geotechnical Prospecting; Mechanical Technology and Vehicles.
- 12 undergraduate programmes (Bologna 1st cycle): Accounting; Biomedical Engineering/Technology; Civil Engineering; Renewable Energy Engineering; Electrical and Computers Engineering; Informatics Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Chemical and Biological Engineering; Management; International Business Management; Management Informatics; Technology and Industrial Management.
- 8 graduate programmes (Bologna 2nd cycle): Accounting and Finance; Renewable Energy and Energetic Efficiency; Construction Engineering; Industrial Engineering; Chemical Engineering; Management; Information Systems; Biomedical Technology.
The ESTiG teaching standards have determined the growing recognition among employers, which results in the professional success of more than 4800 graduates that ESTiG had prepared for the world of work since 1994.
As a result of the investment in advanced training of its academic staff (currently 82% of teachers hold a PhD), ESTiG has increased its scientific and high-level development activities; the majority of its PhD teachers are integrated in research centres of FCT (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology), and there is at the School a pole of an FCT Associate Laboratory. ESTiG is engaged in several research projects, in national and international partnerships, and it also provides high-level services to public and private entities, under cooperation protocols.
