Admission requirements
The holders of the licenciado degree or legal equivalent, the holders of a foreign academic degree and the holders of a relevant academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae may apply to the 2nd cycle of studies, as stated in the description of the Portuguese Higher Education System, provided by NARIC (http://www.dges.mctes.pt/DGES/pt/Reconhecimento/NARICENIC/) and presented in section 8 of the Diploma Supplement.

Recognition of prior learning
Following the implementation of the Bologna Process and the consequent legislation regarding the mobility of students among degrees and higher education institutions, prior learning must be recognized and credited. The prior learning concept comprises all the previous learning/training undertaken in other higher education study cycles in national or international institutions (crediting of certified training), as well as previous professional experience and any post-secondary school training or education. As such, the IPB promotes the crediting of the student’s prior learning when arriving at the institution.
Aiming at a quick and full integration of the student in his/her new education programme, the recognition procedures must be submitted when enrolling at the IPB.

Qualification requirements and regulations
90 ECTS credits (30 per semester). 3 semesters. 40 weeks of study per year (20 weeks per semester). 1620 total hours of study per year; 1 credit corresponds to 27 hours. A variable number of contact (teaching) hours, depending on the established schedule for each Course Unit. It includes a scientific dissertation, a project work or a professional traineeship which will be concluded with a final report comprising 30 credits ECTS.
Holders of this qualification are entitled to develop high-level professional activity and to be admitted to the Portuguese Order of Nurses. The professional title of Specialist Nurse is assigned by the Order of Nurses, in accordance with its internal rules.
The cycle of studies leading to the Master's degree in Family Health Nursing at the School of Health of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, of the School of Health of the University of Aveiro and of the School of Health of the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, published by Order n.º 6011/2014 of 05/08/2014, with amendment published in Notice n.º 3826/2021, DR n.º 42 of March 02, 2021 – 2nd series, obtained a favorable opinion from the Order of Nurses, as per Notice n.º. 3826/2021 DR n.º. 42 of March 2, 2021 - 2nd series.

Profile of the programme
The profile of the programme comprises the development of the technical-scientific knowledge and professional skills in the study areas of Nursing; Management; Psychology ; Social Science. Nursing; Management; Psychology; Social Science.

Key learning outcomes

The degree of "mestre" (master) in Nursing in Family Health is awarded to those students that demonstrate, in this field, the ability to:
a) To contribute to the formation of a professional able to develop skills in the challenges faced by families, resulting in specialized care needs in nursing, the issues of health and demographic, social and
epidemiological change;
b) To enhance knowledge and intervention methodologies in Family Nursing;
c) To train for critical thinking within the family care throughout the life cycle;
d) To enable the development of scientific research aiming qualified answers to the specificities of people subject of care and also the health professionals work contexts;
e) To enhance the development of a collaborative professional able to adapt to the characteristics and emerging challenges, complex and unpredictable contexts of health.

Occupational profiles of graduates
The degree of "mestre" (master) in Nursing in Family Health belongs to the education and training area of Health Sciences and Social Protection. Graduates are specialized to develop a professional activity within the profile of the programme.

Access to further studies
The degree of "mestre" allows to proceed to 3rd cycle studies, according to the diagram of the Portuguese Higher Education System, provided by NARIC (http://www.dges.mctes.pt/DGES/pt/Reconhecimento/NARICENIC/) and presented in section 8 of the Diploma Supplement.

Graduation requirements
Degree in Nursing.
