The holders of the licenciado degree or legal equivalent, the holders of a foreign academic degree and the holders of a relevant academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae may apply to the 2nd cycle of studies, as stated in the description of the Portuguese Higher Education System, provided by NARIC (http://www.dges.mctes.pt/DGES/pt/Reconhecimento/NARICENIC/) and presented in section 8 of the Diploma Supplement.Recognition of prior learning
Following the implementation of the Bologna Process and the consequent legislation regarding the mobility of students among degrees and higher education institutions, prior learning must be recognized and credited. The prior learning concept comprises all the previous learning/training undertaken in other higher education study cycles in national or international institutions (crediting of certified training), as well as previous professional experience and any post-secondary school training or education. As such, the IPB promotes the crediting of the student’s prior learning when arriving at the institution.Aiming at a quick and full integration of the student in his/her new education programme, the recognition procedures must be submitted when enrolling at the IPB.

Qualification requirements and regulations
120 ECTS credits (30 per semester), 4 semesters, 40 study weeks per year (20 weeks per semester). 3240 total hours of study per year (27 total hours of study per ECTS credit), of which 1776 are contact hours. Includes Dissertation or Project Work or Professional Nature Internship with 30 ECTS.The holders of this degree are qualified to develop high-level professional activity.
The cycle of studies leading to the degree of Master in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing of the School of Health of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, the School of Health of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo and the School of Health of the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, published by Order N.º 12705/2022 published in DR. n.º 211, 2nd series of 02/11/2022. Obtained a favourable opinion from the Order of Nurses, as published in DR nº. 46- 2nd series of March 6, 2023, according to declaration of rectification nº 179/2023.

The degree of "mestre" (master) in Maternal and Obstetric Nursing is awarded to those students that demonstrate, in this field, the ability to:- Analyze reflexively the theoretical foundations necessary for the conceptualization of specialized care.
- Elaborate conceptual arguments consistent with the professional act.
- Integrate the process of decision making and critical-reflexive thinking in specialized nursing practice.
- Analyze the factors that influence the process of decision making and critical-reflective thinking in nursing practice.
- Integrate the importance of autonomy, continuous quality improvement and research in nursing practice.
- Integrate the knowledge for the formulation of standards and procedures for specialized practice, ensuring safety
and quality, supported by scientific evidence.
