Admission requirements

The holders of the licenciado degree or legal equivalent, the holders of a foreign academic degree and the holders of a relevant academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae may apply to the 2nd cycle of studies, as stated in the description of the Portuguese Higher Education System, provided by NARIC (http://www.dges.mctes.pt/DGES/pt/Reconhecimento/NARICENIC/) and presented in section 8 of the Diploma Supplement.

Recognition of prior learning

Following the implementation of the Bologna Process and the consequent legislation regarding the mobility of students among degrees and higher education institutions, prior learning must be recognized and credited. The prior learning concept comprises all the previous learning/training undertaken in other higher education study cycles in national or international institutions (crediting of certified training), as well as previous professional experience and any post-secondary school training or education. As such, the IPB promotes the crediting of the student’s prior learning when arriving at the institution.
Aiming at a quick and full integration of the student in his/her new education programme, the recognition procedures must be submitted when enrolling at the IPB.

Qualification requirements and regulations

90 créditos ECTS (30 por semestre). 3 semestres. 40 semanas de estudo por ano (20 semanas por semestre). 1620 horas totais de estudo por ano (27 horas totais de estudo por cada crédito ECTS). Inclui um trabalho de projeto ou uma Dissertação de Natureza Científica ou um estágio de natureza profissional com relatório final de 30 créditos ECTS.
Holders of this qualification are entitled to develop high-level professional activity and to be admitted to the Portuguese Order of Nurses. The professional title of Specialist Nurse is assigned by the Order of Nurses, in accordance with its internal rules.
The cycle of studies leading to the Master's degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing caring for the person in critical stage the School of Health of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, published by Order Nº.13935/2022 of 30/11/2022, published in DR N.º 23, 2nd series, obtained a favourable opinion from the Order of Nurses, in accordance with declaration of retification n.º 18/2023..

Key learning outcomes

The degree of "mestre" (master) in Rehabilitation Nursing is awarded to those students that demonstrate, in this field, the ability to:
- Develop scientific, technical, human, relational, ethical, legal and research skills necessary for the provision of specialized
nursing care in medical-surgical nursing of high quality in the field of nursing to people in critical situations;
- To train professionals capable of promoting strong and motivating leaderships adjusted to the challenges facing society,
organizations, clinical governance and specialized nursing care for the person/family in critical situation in conjunction with
multidisciplinary teams;
- Enable to achieve health gains arising from the current needs in health care specialized in nursing, new issues and health
policies, demographic, social, economic and epidemiological changes;
- Enable the student for a safe specialized clinical praxis based on scientific evidence supported by solid and valid standards of
knowledge.

Occupational profiles of graduates

The degree of "mestre" (master) in Medical-Surgical Nursing caring for the person in critical stage belongs to the education and training area of Health Sciences and Social Protection. Graduates are specialized to develop a professional activity within the profile of the programme.

Access to further studies

The degree of "mestre" allows to proceed to 3rd cycle studies, according to the diagram of the Portuguese Higher Education System, provided by NARIC (http://www.dges.mctes.pt/DGES/pt/Reconhecimento/NARICENIC/) and presented in section 8 of the Diploma Supplement.
