Admission requirements
The holders of the licenciado degree or legal equivalent, the holders of a foreign academic degree and the holders of a relevant academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae may apply to the 2nd cycle of studies, as stated in the description of the Portuguese Higher Education System, provided by NARIC (http://www.dges.mctes.pt/DGES/pt/Reconhecimento/NARICENIC/) and presented in section 8 of the Diploma Supplement.

Recognition of prior learning
Following the implementation of the Bologna Process and the consequent legislation regarding the mobility of students among degrees and higher education institutions, prior learning must be recognized and credited. The prior learning concept comprises all the previous learning/training undertaken in other higher education study cycles in national or international institutions (crediting of certified training), as well as previous professional experience and any post-secondary school training or education. As such, the IPB promotes the crediting of the student’s prior learning when arriving at the institution.
Aiming at a quick and full integration of the student in his/her new education programme, the recognition procedures must be submitted when enrolling at the IPB.

Qualification requirements and regulations
90 ECTS credits (30 per semester). 3 semesters. 40 weeks of study per year (20 weeks per semester). 1620 total hours of study per year; 1 credit corresponds to 27 hours. A variable number of contact (teaching) hours, depending on the established schedule for each Course Unit. It includes a scientific dissertation, a project work or a professional traineeship which will be concluded with a final report comprising 30 credits ECTS.
Holders of this qualification are entitled to develop high-level professional activity and to be admitted to the Portuguese Order of Nurses. The professional title of Specialist Nurse is assigned by the Order of Nurses, in accordance with its internal rules.
The cycle of studies leading to the Master's degree in Family Health Nursing at the School of Health of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, of the School of Health of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo and of the School of Health of the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, published by Order n.º2555/2022 de 25/02/2022 – 2nd series, obtained a favorable opinion from the Order of Nurses, reported on 15 October 2020.

Key learning outcomes

The degree of "mestre" (master) in Community nursing in family health nursing is awarded to those students that demonstrate, in this field, the ability to:

To apply the fundamentals of the systemic paradigm and human communication in family evaluation and intervention;
To argue the development of family health nursing based on ethical-legal, sociopolitical and epistemological references of the profession and of Community Nursing in the area of Family Health Nursing (EC-AESF);
Acquire specialized skills for decision making in EC-AESF, focusing on the demands arising from adaptive responses to transitions atdifferent levels of prevention;
Apply the models of evaluation and intervention in the family and its members, as a care unit, throughout the life cycle and at thedifferent levels of prevention, in interface with Public Health and Community Health;
To develop research and leadership capacity in EC-AESF.

Occupational profiles of graduates
The degree of "mestre" (master) in Community nursing in family health nursing belongs to the education and training area of Health Sciences and Social Protection. Graduates are specialized to develop a professional activity within the profile of the programme.

Access to further studies
The degree of "mestre" allows to proceed to 3rd cycle studies, according to the diagram of the Portuguese Higher Education System, provided by NARIC (http://www.dges.mctes.pt/DGES/pt/Reconhecimento/NARICENIC/) and presented in section 8 of the Diploma Supplement.

Graduation requirements
Degree in Nursing.
