Nursing in Rehabilitation

Admission requirements
The holders of the licenciado degree or legal equivalent, the holders of a foreign academic degree and the holders of a relevant academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae may apply to the 2nd cycle of studies, as stated in the description of the Portuguese Higher Education System, provided by NARIC (http://www.dges.mctes.pt/DGES/pt/Reconhecimento/NARICENIC/) and presented in section 8 of the Diploma Supplement.

Recognition of prior learning
Following the implementation of the Bologna Process and the consequent legislation regarding the mobility of students among degrees and higher education institutions, prior learning must be recognized and credited. The prior learning concept comprises all the previous learning/training undertaken in other higher education study cycles in national or international institutions (crediting of certified training), as well as previous professional experience and any post-secondary school training or education. As such, the IPB promotes the crediting of the student’s prior learning when arriving at the institution.
Aiming at a quick and full integration of the student in his/her new education programme, the recognition procedures must be submitted when enrolling at the IPB.

Qualification requirements and regulations
90 ECTS credits (30 per semester). 3 semesters. 40 weeks of study per year (20 weeks per semester). 1620 total study hours per year (27 total study hours per ECTS credit). Includes a project work or a Dissertation of a Scientific Nature or an internship of a professional nature with a final report of 30 ECTS credits.
Holders of this qualification are entitled to develop high-level professional activity and to be admitted to the Portuguese Order of Nurses. The professional title of Specialist Nurse is assigned by the Order of Nurses, in accordance with its internal rules.
The cycle of studies leading to the Master's degreeof Master in Rehabilitation of the School of Health of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, published by Order Nº. 13802/2022 published in DR N.º 228, 2nd series of 25/02/2022 . Obtained a favourable opinion from the Order of Nurses, as published in DR n.º. 47- 2nd series of March 6, 2023, according to declaration of rectification n.º 179/2023.

Key learning outcomes
The degree of "mestre" (master) in Rehabilitation Nursing is awarded to those students that demonstrate, in this field, the ability to:

a) develop knowledge and skills, theoretical-practical and research knowledge in order to promote the excellence of specialized practice in Rehabilitation Nursing throughout the life cycle in different intervention contexts;
b) develop knowledge and skills for specialized intervention in rehabilitation nursing, highlighting high levels of clinical judgment and decision-making, taking into account human responses to life processes and health problems;
c) develop scientific, technical, relational, ethical, legal and investigational skills necessary for the provision of specialized nursing care;
d) promote decision-making that guides an autonomous professional exercise based on scientific evidence and ethical and deontological references.

To complete the qualification, the student is required to pass all compulsory course units of the study plan.

Occupational profiles of graduates
The degree of "mestre" (master) in Rehabilitation Nursing belongs to the education and training area of Health Sciences and Social Protection. Graduates are specialized to develop a professional activity within the profile of the programme.

Access to further studies
The degree of "mestre" allows to proceed to 3rd cycle studies, according to the diagram of the Portuguese Higher Education System, provided by NARIC (http://www.dges.mctes.pt/DGES/pt/Reconhecimento/NARICENIC/) and presented in section 8 of the Diploma Supplement.

Graduation requirements
Degree in Nursing.
